AROA PictureA native of West Texas and a cum laude graduate of Rice University, Dr. Roberts graduated from the Baylor College of Medicine in 1987. Following his internship and residency, also with the Baylor College of Medicine, he briefly returned to West Texas before joining the staff of the Arthur Temple, Sr. Regional Cancer Center in Lufkin in 1992. Five years later he became the Center's Medical Director. Dr. Roberts also has directed the radiation therapy program of the Laird Cancer Center at Nacogdoches Medical Center in Nacogdoches since 1994.

  • Recipient of Jack O. (Butch) McMullen Silver Spike Award in recognition of outstanding community leadership, May 4, 2000
    - Reorganized the Board and recruited committees; lead local unit in increasing involvement and fundraising
  • 2006 Received prestigious St. George National Award. The St. George Award is the highest award that the national board of directors of the American Cancer Society bestows upon a state-level volunteer.

Established the annual Jan Moore Memorial Lecture on Breast Cancer in 1993, a luncheon for approximately 200 community women held each October. Recognized women speakers address breast cancer related topics from prevention and early diagnosis to advocacy, treatment, and recovery. The speaker for 2006 was First Lady of Texas Anita Perry.

Pianist for various community functions, such as the Hospice Style Show and the American Heart Association Celebrity Waiter Dinner, as well as for occasional First Baptist Church, Lufkin functions.
